loopy granny

———

Recently I bought some new yarn from the commodities market here in Shanghai.

I wanted to try it out on a small project to see if I would like to use it more often.

I thought a cushion might be a good idea.

I am  really pleased with the result even though I don’t usually use black in my work.

Its just a few small granny squares put together, but I am so in love with my loopy edging.

I have seen this edging in books before but I’ve never tried it because the pattern looked too fiddly.

I decided to try a variation on the idea and I am so happy with the way it turned out.

I can see lots of uses for this stitch and I think it adds a little glamour to the humble granny.

The Christmas edition of Mollie Makes

———

———

This  morning I was delighted to discover that the latest copy of Mollie Makes had downloaded onto my computer.

Its full of fantastic crafty, Christmas inspiration.

Now I’m really in a Christmas mood.   This weekend maybe the perfect time to make a felt ornament or two!

baskets

———

I had some baskets that I was using to store fabric and they were looking a little tatty.

I thought it might be nice to revamp them by adding a new lining.

The baskets were blue so of course the lining had to be red.

———

I did a little cutting and sewing

fitted the lining to my baskets

then popped them into the cupboard to hold all my crafty goodies

dresden daze

———

A while ago a made a quilt that I called Dresden Daze.

At the time I wrote a pattern for it but I never got around to putting it on my blog page.

Better late than never.  So here it is!

———

———

The Dresden Plates are machine pieced and hand appliqued to the the background blocks.

Then a simple alternate  block with four corner triangles was added.

Finally three quarter plates were added to each corner to form part of the border.

sunburst

———

My Sunburst blanket is starting to take shape.

Its always exciting when you start to join the blocks together.

This doesn’t mean  that the end is in sight, I still have a long way to go before I finish.

But I am happy with the way it’s looking.

Japanese craft books.

One of my favorites is this one called Kawaii Knit and Zakka Goods by Kazuko Ryokai.

Beautiful photographs and lots of small projects for inspiration.

more patterns

I have added two more of my patterns to the pattern page.

Both are pin cushions – one is a little hanging heart and the other one is hooked.

There are more photographs of both of these on my old blog – The Patchwork Orange

Enjoy!

——

——

Its getting colder, the days are shorter now

I can light the fire and cosy up under a woolly blanket

Winter is calling, December beckons

When the season changes my mind turns to Christmas
